Synopsis
The Girl in The Red Scarf takes us into the world of one family destroyed by these brutal killings. At the age of nine, the protagonist Ayu (later renamed Sari) witnesses her father, a respected spiritual healer and rain shaman, being lynched by a vengeful masked mob who accuse him of practicing black magic. After the murder of her father, the novel then charts Sari’s journey into adolescence, capturing her struggle to come to terms with the tragic injustice of her father’s death and her determination to track down those responsible.
